Boalt Centers + Students = Mutually Beneficial Relationship

As some of you might know, Boalt currently has several "Centers":
  • Berkeley Center for Criminal Justice
  • Berkeley Center on Health, Economic & Family Security
  • Berkeley Center for Law, Business and the Economy
  • Berkeley Center for Law & Technology
  • Center for Law, Energy & the Environment
  • Thelton E. Henderson Center for Social Justice
  • Chief Justice Earl Warren Institute on Race, Ethnicity and Diversity
  • The Center for the Study of Law and Society
  • The Institute for Legal Research
  • Kadish Center for Morality, Law & Public Affairs
  • Robert D. Burch Center for Tax Policy & Public Finance
  • The Honorable G. William and Ariadna Miller Institute for Global Challenges and the Law
Six of these centers have been formed within the last 5 years.  They bring prestige to Boalt by being at the forefront of tackling real-world problems and by producing superior research.  However, student contribution and interaction with the centers is relatively limited (more so with some centers than others).  BHSA wants to remove the disconnect between students and the centers; we will be working on possible opportunities for students to become more involved and to encourage the centers to capitalize on all that Boalties have to offer.

If you have suggestions on what you want to see/what you like now/ what sucks now....feel free to share.

  1. I think it would be fantastic if the Centers could do a presentation to interested students about their work, as well as about the professors and resident scholars that are conducting research within them. Just opening up channels for better communication would be a big step in the right direction. If this could happen at the beginning of the year, it would be preferable, so that students have an opportunity to find ways of making connections with projects from the outset.
