Dear Boalties:
The BHSA currently seeks 2L and 3L candidates interested in serving on the student government for the positions of BHSA Secretary and Graduate Assembly (GA) Representative. It seeks two 1Ls for the 1L Representatives, and 1 LLM for the LLM Representative.
The Secretary's specific duties include administering all elections and referenda; recording and maintaining a file of the minutes of BHSA Council meetings, and possibly publishing a bi-monthly BHSA Newsletter.
The GA Rep is responsible for coordinating and appointing delegates from the law school to the Graduate Assembly (the UC Berkeley graduate student government). The GA Rep is additionally responsible for guiding advocacy on behalf of the law school, as well as serving as the liaison between the GA and the law school and BHSA.
1L and LLM Reps are responsible for representing issues that impact their class to the Board and Administration.
Of course, all officers are also involved in key BHSA decisions, including:
1. selection of student representatives to serve on administrative committees related to faculty hiring, admissions, financial aid, and more;
2. allocation of BHSA funds to student organizations;
3. advocating on behalf of students to the administration;
4. adoption and issuance of BHSA policy statements.
BHSA will be holding an informational meeting TOMORROW, WEDNESDAY, August 26th at 12:45-1:45 in Room 111 for anyone interested in running for the offices. Lunch will be provided.
Dates to save:
1. Aug. 26 at 12:45: Election Informational Session (Room 111)
2. Aug. 28 by 5:00 pm: Deadline to file applications
3. Sept. 1 at 12:45: Candidate Forum (Room 115)
4. Sept. 2 and 3: Elections
So, if you are you worried about the LRAP program, or course offerings, or the impact of the renovation projects on students, joining BHSA will provide an opportunity to voice student concerns and push for action and change. Students have a voice in all of these issues, and more, through the Boalt Hall Students Association (BHSA).
Please attend the meeting if you are interested in running, or even if you are just curious! Feel free to contact Alexis at alexis.sohrakoff@gmail.com or Peter at peter.n.halpern@gmail.com if you have any questions.
Hope to see you!
Alexis Sohrakoff & Peter Halpern
Co-BHSA Presidents
