1) what do i need to take to graduate? A: * 85 units to graduate * What do I have to take? You have to take con law. You DO NOT have to take this your second year, just before you graduate. The 0Ls are required to take some boring thing, but we are not. * YOU HAVE to take professional responsibility; whether as a class or as a clinic that qualifies * What's the MPRE? At some point in the next two years we have to take this. It sounds boring. It is req'd in all but 4 US jxns...where are these jxns?
* You also need to do a writing requirement. I'm bored. * How long does it have to be: 40-70 pages * How do i fulfill it, three ways. 1) take a class w/ a 40 page paper 2) Or, take a class w/ a shorter writing requirement, and then expand it using a 1 credit class and write a longer paper? * Intricacies: Do I turn in the 25 page paper and then turn in the other one or what have you? THIS WILL BE PROFESSOR SPECIFIC 3) You have a fabulous idea (you, not me) you find a professor who's psyched too and then you take a 2 unit class and work with that prof.
* WHEN ARE THESE DUE? End of fall of 3L year
* WHO CAN SUPERVISE? Any currently employed faculty member ANY means ANY. But be sure that they're going to be teaching here when you FINISH! Remember, this is a big deal for both of you.
* If I'm doing my paper in 1 semester and want to finish it over the summer can I turn it in in the Fall. Some 3Ls think this seemed like a good idea and then they're bored :( Poor little 3L
CALIFORNIA BAR STUFF: Check where you're going to take the bar to see what they need.
Should you take bar classes or no? * These are not required, it is up to you what you should do * Suggestions if you're adverse to bar classes. She suggests rule based classes. What are those. 1) EVIDENCE: Please take this 2) Civ Pro 2 (only offered fall next year) *** Kyle Brady fronts to D.H. -- she pwns him, we all cry. 3) Corporations 4) Crim Pro Investigation
ADD DROP: * There are two period. First, you can add/drop for free on telebears. Central campus has these open Second, after that you have to fill a form, get a pproval pay. Deadlines. NOV 1 (Fall) APR 1 (Spring)
SEMINAR CURVES: * If a seminar has less than 24 students and requires a paper over 40 pages then it qualifies for the seminar curve. * The number of the extra H's and HH's (mythical....) is on the website
Ahhh, Kristin Holmquist is talking. She's so great.
Next semester she is teaching Wills and Trusts. It is fun and human (...) and there is an academic support thing in that she will be teaching weekly sessions, do writing, get feedback, etc. She'll be your tutor.
You need 85 units to graduate. 15 can be from non-law. Only 10 of these can be in externships. They urge us to use them well. She thinks you should first do clinics, before you do externships. These don't count to the 10 and she thinks they rock.
4 Kinds of Externships: 1) General Field Placement: Bay area non-profit and gov't agency. Can't get credit for private. There is an approved list already up on the website, if you think yours should qualify, you can apply. ONLY PART TIME. 16 hours a week minimum, 4 units up to 5. 2) Judicial externships. Can do part or full time (full time being 10 units). Can be anywhere else in country or the WORLD. Wow... Check w/ Terrance Galligan -- we all know you have his email address -- to see if there are any you're interested in. 3) Away program: You take your 10 field placement units and you go somewhere else -- again, in the world or away. Each semester 3-6 students do this. 4) UCDC: Application program (late sept. early oct). There are 8-12 slots. Identify a placement. It's a 10 unit placement but you can maybe do it for less. And then you take a 3 unit seminar -- law making and changing in the US government, taught by 8th grade social studies teacher?
She has come up with a 2 year curriculum plan, which will be unveiled tomorrow. You will see the courses offered for both semesters and the instructors for those classes.
You can ctrl. + f search ... if you're that handy.
This list IS NOT A GUARANTEE.
People get pregnant (Joel...), they get sick, they get fired
Check it frequently. They're adding stuff all the time. Speaking of adding, does Baskin Robbins always have just 31 flavors? Do they rotate? Haven't they considered changing any of them?
James Lida (DR.) HE's our psychologist, and he seems great. He's so nice. And has a single earing! He loves us just as we are. Savala totally has a crush on him.
CURVES: * If there are small numbers of 1Ls the 1Ls are on their own curve no matter how many or few there are. * This holds true in seminars as well.
PAPERS: * You can theoretically do this with Prof A and B but be careful. Make sure they're in-line.
OTHER LAW SCHOOL WE CAN TAKE CLASSES AT: * Hastings, GOlden Gate, Santa Clara, Stanford, McGeorge, SF State * If you take classes at these schools you HAVE to get a B or better. This grade, itself, will be on your transcript and will not count towards your ranking.
CIV PRO II: * Are we assured a spot? In a word, NO, but there shouldn't be a problem. * Will THIRD years be taking our spaces? Probably. If supply is way to low, they'll work on it. * This is turning into trouble.
Mmmm...sandwich is delicious
ReplyDeleteThere's going to be posting a two year class schedule starting this year so we can actually plan our entire law school career! Frightening.
