BBB or something like it...

I met with M*B* (the person who sends us the email Sunday nights with the week's events) to talk about the BBB.

In a nutshell, the information is out there (in different form) and the links below will help you find it. We aren't pushing to bring back the paper BBB; just asking for better accessibility.

Here is a more detailed summary:

1. The BBB still exists. Announcements are still posted there.

2. All events are posted to the
Berkeley Law Events Calendar. The default is going to change in the coming days from Grid View to List View to show the day's events in a list under a date heading rather than a month view with some events hidden away under the "click here for more link."

3. Turns out the online BBB and the calendar have RSS feeds which we can subscribe to.
4. Expect to see an email to the entire student body from M*B* later this week highlighting the above websites and other calendars/announcements sites that might be of interest.

5. Students are required to post events through the "Student Services" calendar. The idea was that M*M or someone in Student Services would double check the information provided by the person posting the event (event, type, date, room, etc.) and then approve posting the event to the calendar. I asked whether this was a real problem - students posting events and then not reserving rooms - and M*B said in the time he has been here (over a year) he has not seen or heard of one incident. There is also an added inconvenience to the current system: Events cannot be edited once submitted so M*B or a live person has to manually go and change the event. Which leads me to the last point...

6. The Students Events Calendar that is used by all of Berkeley and that the GA requires events they sponsor be posted to. That calendar allows students to modify the events they create because it keeps track of posted events by CalNetId. He said he has been in contact with the people who run that calendar and would look into adding Boalt to the main campus calendar in the future.
